You may have been reading about alternative fuels on this blog—or elsewhere. We know it can be confusing. So here is a handy glossary to help you remember the difference between diesel, renewable diesel, biodiesel, and other fuels. 

Natural gas is a great alternative fuel for clean vehicles. Its benefits are often advertised from the perspective of commercial fleet owners who enjoy significant cost savings, or from a broader environmental perspective. On September 20, 2022, three Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) employees received National Safety Council (NSC) awards. The NSC presented the Marion Martin Award to Maude McGraw, the Distinguished Service to Safety Award to Pat Cunningham and the Rising Stars of Safety Award to Jolene Chong at the opening session of the 2022 NSC Congress and Expo and the National Award Ceremony in San Diego, California. All three Cummins employees received these prestigious awards for their continued dedication to safety. 

Diesel is the fuel of choice for a range of products including generator sets and engines used in marine, rail and construction and mining equipment, but there are alternatives. With concerns about the climate rising, businesses, shareholders and lawmakers are looking at replacement options for diesel in vehicles and power generation applications.

Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), Cummins has announced that 300,000 engines will be delivered to Hyundai Construction Equipment (HCE) in 2022.  Cummins and Hyundai Executives met in Columbus Indiana to celebrate the momentous occasion. Cummins and HCE have been business partners for over 30 years and this marked another milestone for both companies. 

Appreciating historic cars is a passion held by car enthusiasts and organizations the world over. One such organization is the Auburn Cord Duesenberg (ACD) auto club. ACD meets annually to commemorate the historic automobiles that trace their roots back to Connersville “Little Detroit” Indiana. In August, Cummins was invited to display its 1935 white Auburn 655 diesel car at ACD’s mini-meet.

Vehicle greenhouse gas emissions can be accounted for on a “tank-to-wheels” basis or on a “well-to-wheels” basis. The former only considers the emissions that come out of a vehicle’s tailpipe. The latter includes the emissions that were released as a result of the production, processing and distribution of the fuel. For some alternative fuels, how they are made is more important than what happens when they are burnt.
