The pressure on heavy industries to meet decarbonization goals is increasing. There are few suitable low-carbon alternatives for off-highway equipment. This includes excavators, wheel loaders, tractors and combines, among others. To meet the requirements of round-the-clock, high-energy usage in difficult environments, hydrogen internal combustion engines are a straightforward solution.

Not only do the bridges help both locals and visitors get to the other side of the Bay, but they also allow multiple ships to pass daily to piers throughout the Bay.

Werner Enterprises (Nasdaq: WERN), a premier transportation and logistics provider, and Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), a global power solutions provider, announced today Werner signed a letter of intent to purchase 500 Cummins’ 15-liter hydrogen internal combustion engines upon availability. The two companies announced earlier this year, Werner Enterprises plans to validate and integrate Cummins’15-liter natural gas and Cummins’ X15H hydrogen engines, both part of Cummins’ fuel agnostic platform, into their fleet.

Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) will expand PEM electrolyzer manufacturing capacity at its Oevel, Belgium, factory to 1 gigawatt (GW) with the support from the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) Hy2Tech program. IPCEI – recently approved by the European Commission, with funding granted by Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship Agency (VLAIO) – will help Cummins develop a new generation of PEM electrolyzer cell stacks to power large-scale hydrogen production systems.

Today, Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) announced a $5 million partnership investment with Boston-based Reinventure Capital, an impact fund that invests in U.S. based companies led and managed by people of color and/or women. Co-founded and managed by expert impact investor, Edward Dugger, III, Reinventure provides its partners the opportunity to advance racial and gender equity through access to diversified portfolio companies while achieving competitive returns.

Hydrogen is poised to take a meaningful role in the world’s sustainable energy landscape. No sector stands to benefit more from the use of green hydrogen as an energy carrier than the commercial transportation sector. When people think about hydrogen for commercial vehicle use, they often think of fuel cells battery electric. Internal combustion engines (ICE), however, are also a viable way to power a vehicle with hydrogen.

Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) will reveal a medium-duty concept truck powered by the B6.7H hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2-ICE) at the IAA Transportation exhibition (Sept. 20 to 25, Hanover, Germany). The H2-ICE conversion highlights the opportunity for truck applications across the 10-to-26 ton gross vehicle weight (GVW) range to operate on zero-carbon hydrogen fuel with a potential operating range of up to 500-kilometres.

In the United States, medium and heavy-duty vehicles are responsible for about a quarter of all transportation greenhouse gas emissions. They’re also the cause of about a third of NOx emissions from mobile sources. It’s no wonder the commercial transportation sector is being asked to reduce emissions. Government regulations and customer demand are driving businesses to reduce emissions, as they recognize the need to ensure long-term sustainability.

For the first time since finalizing the acquisition of Meritor, Inc. last month, Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) will showcase Meritor’s 17Xe ePowertrain assembled with a Cummins battery system during the IAA Transportation tradeshow in Hannover, Germany. The 17Xe is designed for heavy-duty trucks in the 4x2 and 6x2 segment, with capacity to support 44 tons of gross combined weight, or more in some applications. The assembly also features a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, a new arrival to Cummins’ battery line-up.
