Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from a variety of products and processes, including paint and coating operations. While paint can provide protection and aesthetic benefits to products, the VOCs emitted during the painting process also have environmental implications. VOCs can react with nitrogen oxide when exposed to sunlight to create ground-level ozone, contributing to smog. Painting operations also contribute to water and chemical waste and increased electricity and gas usage.

Cummins Power Generation in South Africa has partnered with a school in the disadvantaged Ivory Park area of Johannesburg to deliver a Careers Day for 370 students. A team of 25 Cummins personnel, led by Alok Joshi, Director of Power Generation Business, Africa, presented career options in engineering, science, human resources, law, logistics, marketing, education, basic skills, finance, engineering and technical apprenticeships.

Growing up, Aidan was captivated by how things worked, especially cars and engines. “I spent countless hours tinkering and trying to fix whatever I could,” he recalls. This curiosity naturally led him to explore a career in mechanics. When he discovered Cummins Inc. and the Technician Apprentice Program (TAP), it felt like destiny. “The opportunity to combine my passion for engines with a reputable company was too good to pass up,” he says.

This summer, Cummins’ coast-to-coast Redefining Efficiency Tour across North America sparked conversation about how we can continue working with our customers to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. In order to pinpoint the areas requiring focus, we must measure our overall efforts. Our company’s recent voluntary report to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an effort to encourage greater public environmental reporting and drive change, is one means by which we report this information.
