For most of its life, the fire engine belonged to the town of Stamford in the U.K. and was based at the local fire station. After falling into disrepair, mechanics made several failed attempts to restore the historic piece.

As local students returned to school in the U.S., Cummins leaders recently joined policymakers to discuss a question plaguing industries around the world: how can society prepare and encourage more children, especially girls, to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and manufacturing? Women make up approximately 20 percent of engineering undergraduates in the United States, and careers in these fields often are not even considered by younger students. Without awareness of the potential of these career paths, these numbers are unlikely to improve.

The companies pledged on Sept. 27 in Paris to work to make sales and service available in the target cities no later than 2018 for buses and bus engines with low-emissions technology. Nearly all of the cities benefitting from the partnership are in countries that do not have rigorous emissions regulations.

CUMMINS’ JAMESTOWN ENGINE PLANT IN JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (U.S.A) IS FAST DEVELOPING A REPUTATION FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND REDUCING GREENHOUSE GASES (GHGs). The plant recently showcased its latest initiative, a $47 million block machining line that utilizes on-demand hydraulics, coolant and pneumatics to reduce energy consumption as it produces the company’s high efficiency diesel and natural gas heavy duty engines.
