The launch will allow Cummins Turbo Technologies to bring to market the most efficient turbochargers in this range with new technologies capable of improving overall turbocharger efficiency by up to 10%.*
The announcement, made at CONEXPO 2014, follows the company’s unveiling of a range of products for the off-highway market last year at BAUMA 2013, and marks its continued commitment to the sector.
Stand NCS3, Big Bang Fair 2013, 14-17 March 2013
Seven challenges have been set, all relating to different divisions within Cummins (including Cummins Engine Business, Cummins Turbo Technologies, Cummins Emission Solutions and Cummins Power Generation). From assembling a fuel system to learning how a turbocharger works, students visiting the stand will see first-hand how the tasks – which show the basic principles behind a number of automotive technologies - relate to their everyday lives.
The next generation Two-Stage System with Rotary Turbine Control (RTC) is Cummins’ most sophisticated turbocharger to date, delivering high efficiency, excellent driveability and low emissions levels. This pioneering integrated technology was developed in partnership with Cummins Engine Business and Nissan, specifically for use on the 2016 Nissan TITAN XD pickup truck.
Cummins Turbo Technologies is part of the Cummins Components Group, which includes Cummins Emission Solutions, Cummins Filtration and Cummins Fuel Systems. The Holset brand has been synonymous with turbocharging and aerodynamic excellence for over 50 years, developing an enviable reputation in pursuit of improved engine efficiencies, durability and emissions reduction.
The shift in focus - from emissions driven innovation towards solutions that prioritize fuel economy - highlights Cummins Turbo Technologies’ belief that the industry has now reached the tipping-point at which global engine and vehicle manufacturers are developing products designed to insulate customers from rising fuel prices.
Cummins Emission Solutions, a global leader in aftertreatment technologies, is excited to unveil further developments of the Single Module™ aftertreatment system. Already announced for 6-cylinder engines, this efficient solution that offers up to a 30 percent reduction in weight and up to 50 percent in size compared to today’s Tier 4 Final solutions in this market, will be complemented with variations of this technology for equipment spanning from 74 hp to 430 hp (55-321 kW).
Cummins Turbo Technologies, a global engineering leader in turbocharger technology, will today unveil its Next Generation Holset VGT™, designed to improve turbo efficiencies and deliver greater fuel economy. This latest innovation in VGT technology offers multiple benefits, such as enhanced integration with the engine system due to a new actuator, improved durability and optimised performance through the patented moving shroud variable geometry mechanism.
Cummins has been successful in its application for funding to support the development of new stop-start engine capabilities. The UK’s innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board is awarding £4.9 million of a total £9.9 million project to a Cummins led consortium, which includes Cummins Turbo Technologies, to introduce this technology. The funding supports the Advanced Propulsion Centre’s initiative to build UK manufacturing strength in low carbon vehicles.
The papers to be presented at IMechE include:
‘Development of a high temperature turbocharger for heavy duty applications’ details work carried out to ‘redesign the turbocharger’ in order to meet the changing requirements of HGVs and the drive towards reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The research has enabled the development of a turbocharger which can operate effectively using Stoichiometric Natural Gas, maintaining similar levels of durability and performance as a diesel turbocharger.
The undergraduates, who are working with Cummins as part of their degree studies, have organized displays and activities on the St Andrew’s Road site as part of World Environment Day. On show were a range of the latest techniques and products available from local specialists and community partners to reduce water consumption, power usage and food waste. Employees could also find out about the latest environmental initiatives at the Cummins facility and greener travel to work schemes.
