Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) announced today that President and COO, Rich Freeland will retire after 40 years of service with Cummins.  As part of Cummins’ successions plans, the following leadership appointments are also taking place, all of which are effective October 15. 

For 25 years, Shifa International Hospital Limited (Islamabad) has established itself as a premier healthcare institution. The 550-bed tertiary care hospital where four transplants (liver, kidney, bone marrow and cornea) and five Centers of Excellence take place under one roof makes it unique in the region. It is the second hospital in Pakistan to be accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI).

Cody Patron and her daughter, Layla, are re-building their lives, the result of Hurricane Michael severely damaging their home in October 2018. But Hurricane Michael is just the second tragedy that Cody has experienced in the last decade.The first took place eight years ago and more than 7,000 miles away. Cody’s husband, Sergeant Daniel J. Patron, who served more than a decade in the Marine Corps, earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medals for his heroic service. On August 6, 2011, he was killed in action in Sangin Valley, Afghanistan. 

As the global concern for gas flaring grows, propelled by the World Bank’s Zero Routine Flaring by 2030 initiative, more and more players in the oil and gas sector will be investing in technologies that utilize the unburned fuel to further protect the environment whilst benefiting financially as well. 

Across North America, some students going back to school this fall will ride electric school buses. More than 100 electric school buses, powered by a Cummins fully electric drivetrain, have been ordered to date from Blue Bird Corporation, a school bus manufacturer highly focused on alternative fuel technologies.  Blue Bird electric buses are already operating in California, North Dakota and Washington. Additional buses on order will transport students in California, Colorado, New Jersey, New York and Quebec later this year or in 2020.

Cummins’ Tactical Energy Storage System (TESS) recently reached an important milestone. After demonstrating its capability to the United States Military in May, TESS was recently awarded its first purchase order by the Project Manager Expeditionary Energy and Sustainment Systems (PM E2S2) program office. For Brad Palmer, Cummins’ Director of Electrification Technologies Research and Development, the journey to this point has been long, yet he always remained optimistic.

Public transit gets a charge This month, Santa Monica came together to experience the clean power and potential - of the first-ever GILLIG battery electric bus, powered by Cummins. Everyone from local riders to government officials got to experience the latest in electric transit innovation. Officially on board  The battery electric bus was on display around town, from downtown to the pier. City Manager Rick Cole was one of several people to ride the bus and discover first-hand how it could be the answer to a greener future for the city.

Under the agreement, UC San Diego will perform accelerated testing and real-world application testing, and will develop an outdoor second-life demonstration system comprised of Cummins battery modules. The collaboration will enable Cummins to acquire valuable data on the aging behaviors of its battery modules, test integration solutions for second-life battery systems, and validate stationary energy storage system performance under grid energy storage applications.
