“I truly believe that a company is only sustainable when it achieves economic success while acting as social and environmental stewards,” Cummins Chairman and CEO Tom Linebarger says in the introduction of the report. “It’s a goal I hope you’ll see reflected in the pages of this report.”
It was another impressive year in Cummins’ sustainability journey. Here are just a few of the company’s accomplishments in 2016:
Is dependence to electric power the Achilles heel for businesses against the emerging cybersecurity threats?
Cummins Inc. began offering COVID-19 vaccines for its workforce and their dependents through mobile on-site clinics on April 1 and has now administered its 30,000th vaccine. The company has hosted clinics across its operations in the United States, and also clinics in India and Mexico.
Nowhere has there been a better response to vaccine acceptance than in the Cummins Juárez site, where 95% of employees, more than 2,300 people, have been partially or fully vaccinated.
Jim Cramer, host of the popular show, Mad Money, thinks that hydrogen just may be the cleaner, greener fuel source that the world’s been craving. He recently spoke to Tom Linebarger, Chairman and CEO of Cummins Inc., about hydrogen’s role in the path to zero emissions and Cummins’ role in expanding access to hydrogen.
With increased grid instability, and power outages due to natural disasters and inclement weather - the need for reliable power system equipment is crucial from small business and light commercial to mission-critical and life-saving applications. In response, Cummins Power Generation has designed a series of game-changing transfer switches: The PowerCommand® X-Series Transfer Switches.
The first investment is an approximately $30 million railroad overpass for State Road 46 ,a primary entrance and exit for drivers into and out of downtown Columbus. The overpass is a necessary solution as CSX moves forward with its plans to make approximately $100 million in upgrades to L&I’s Louisville to Indianapolis rail line. These improvements will be completed in mid-to-late 2018, after which CSX expects to begin increasing the number, size, weight and length of trains.
In 2016, Cummins partnered with a European railway equipment manufacturer, to engineer, supply, and integrate the hydrogen fuel cell solution in its trains. The trains entered commercial service in 2018 and can carry up to 150 seated passengers and 150 standing passengers. There is growing interest from several European countries to use the trains for non-electrified tracks.
Holset® turbochargers are synonymous with turbomachinery and air handling excellence across the globe. Engineered and manufactured by Cummins Turbo Technologies (CTT), Holset turbochargers have set the standard for turbocharger technology and design in the mid-range and heavy-duty diesel engine market for more than six decades.
