INLINE is a datalink adapter that translates communications from your engine’s ECM. INLINE adapters are currently available from your local Cummins dealer or distributor in these three models: 

INLINE™ MINI
INLINE™ mini, Bluetooth-enabled Vehicle Datalink Adapter for Heavy Duty vehicles allows a mobile device (e.g., smartphone or tablet) to communicate wirelessly with on-board Electronic Control Module (ECM) for vehicle subsystems (e.g., Engine, Transmission, Brake System). The INLINETM mini has an integrated 9-pin connector that plugs directly into the vehicle's SAE J1939-13 diagnostic connector.

INLINE™ 7
The INLINE™ 7 adapter communicates with your PC using a Universal Serial Bus (USB) through a standard USB connector as well as through WiFi or Bluetooth. As an industry leader, Cummins is among the first to release an adapter with all three connection options. INLINE™ 7 is fully compliant with the Technology and Maintenance Councils RP1210 standard, and also offers 250 and 500 K baud support, including up to 1 megabaud support.

INLINE™ 6
The INLINE™ 6 adapter can communicate with your PC through a 9-pin serial connector. It can also communicate with your PC over a Universal Serial Bus (USB) through a 4-pin standard connector. The INLINE™ 6 adapter connects to vehicle power, the SAE J1708/J1587 data link and two CAN/J1939 data links via a 25-pin serial connector.

  • Fully compliant with the Technology and Maintenance Council’s RP1210 standard
  • Meets Cummins in-cab environmental test requirements

Note that if you have an INLINE 5 or INLINE 4 adapter, you must install the proper INLINE 5 PC Driver that is included in this software. The INLINE 5 Software installation is a typical Windows-based, self-executing installation. Version 5.6.5.4 of the executable setup file installs the latest released INLINE 5 PC Driver, which allows RP1210-compatible software applications to communicate with the INLINE 5 adapter. The latest version of the reflash utility and version 5.46 of the firmware are also included in this download and will be installed automatically in their proper folders in your PC when you run the install program, as described below. Note that if you have issues with a DEF gauge, you should use Driver Version 5.7.0.1, which has version 5.47 of the firmware.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Download the appropriate INLINE 5 zip file by clicking on a link above (note that unless you have a 64-bit Operating System, you should use the 32-bit file).
  2. Unzip and extract the executable file using zip/unzip software.
  3. Click on the Windows Start menu and click Run.
  4. Click on the Browse button and locate the files you have downloaded. (Use version 5.6.5.4, unless you have DEF gauge problems, in which case you should use 5.7.0.1).
  5. Click the OK button to install the correct INLINE 5 Driver, reflash utility, and firmware on your PC.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
  7. Connect +8 V to +50 V power to your INLINE 5 adapter through the DB25 cable you have.
  8. Use your DB9F to DB9M serial cable or USB cable to connect the INLINE 5 adapter to the proper PC communication port.
  9. Follow the Driver Installation and other instructions located on the On-line Manuals page.
