Applications

Overview:

Tied to the EPA 2010 introduction, on December 31, 2009 the B Gas Plus 5.9 litre Lean Burn Natural Gas engine and the BLPG Plus 5.9 litre Propane engine will be discontinued in North America.  Cummins and Cummins Westport will continue to support B Gas Plus and BLPG Plus warranty, service and parts availability as required.

It is important to also note that the B Gas Plus will continue to be offered in markets outside of North America certified EURO 3,4,5, EEV.  For more information, please view Leadteam Bulletin 09-11, Feb 23, 2009.

Key Features And Benefits

Fuel Economy:

  • Air Intake System - Charge air cooling is utilized to reduce emissions levels by lowering intake manifold temperatures
  • CM556 Control System with Drive-by-Wire Technology - New engine sensors enable the engine to automatically adjust for optimum performance over a wide range of operating conditions and duty cycles
  • Emissions - Certified to EPA 2007 and CARB standards
  • Air/Fuel Regulation - Cummins closed-loop electronic control system
  • Ignition System - Cummins electronic high energy system
  • Turbocharger - A Holset turbocharger with an electronically controlled wastegate provides improved response and performance. A watercooled design is used for high durability

Low Maintenance Costs:

  • Complete Rebuildability - The cylinder block has multiple rebore capability. Service cylinder sleeves and valve guides are also available if needed
  • Parts Simplicity - Enables most engines service and repair operations with common tools

Reliability/Durability:

  • Cast-Iron Skirted Block - Main bearing supports between each cylinder for maximum strength and rigidity, low weight and optimum crankshaft support for long life
  • Connecting Rods - Drop-forged construction maximizes structural strength, and an anglesplit cap-to-rod interface and capscrew attachment make servicing easier
  • Crankshaft - Induction-hardened forged-steel crankshaft provides maximum strength and multiple regrind capability for long-term cost savings
  • Pistons - For extended piston and ring life, a Ni-Resist ring insert is cast into the aluminum alloy piston and carries the top piston ring
