The Cummins mining team was excited to show up to The Electric Mine Conference in Tucson, Arizona, USA, in late May as a Showcase Sponsor, ready to share our perspective on decarbonization in the mining industry.
For over a year, through the Cummins Water Works (CWW) Mississippi River Basin Grant, Cummins Inc. and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) have collaborated on projects aimed at reducing pollution entering rivers and streams in the Mississippi River Basin. One unique project came about this May when Cummins employees gathered at the Cummins Seymour Engine Plant in Indiana and built nesting boxes for the endangered Hellbender Salamanders.
It’s almost been nine years since launching Cummins Technical Education for Communities (TEC) in Beijing, China. Although the program is well established and learning and activities have taken place over the years, COVID-19 brought about challenges with face-to-face learning, internships and community partners interacting.
Cummins Inc. has been supporting and involved with STEM education at schools in Columbus for many years. Since starting in 2015 at Schmitt Elementary, over time, Cummins has had a hand in STEM labs being incorporated into every elementary school in the district. The program has certainly evolved since inception, and, if you can imagine, with 2022-2023 being its first formal year, robotics is now part of the curriculum.
Did you know that manufacturing is the third largest industry sector in the Western New York region? Cummins Inc. is proud to play a part in building engines at our Jamestown Engine Plant (JEP), where we employ roughly 1,300 (and counting) of the 18,000 manufacturing workers in the three-county area. However, a shortage of qualified workers is predicted over the coming decade due to industry growth and workers retiring. The industry will need help to fill this gap.
As a Data Quality Index Manager, Mayank reviews machine learning and analytical model data and develops Business Integration (BI) visualization tools. Throughout his 15 years at Cummins, he has scoped projects, defined timelines and developed solution concepts. Now he coaches and trains others to do the same. He’s working toward a leadership position — a senior data-level role within the Quality organization — and he’s certain Cummins will help him get there.
