If you work for a company where a power system – in this case, defined as an engine or power generator – Is powering your boats, locomotives, mining equipment or buildings such as hospitals, small businesses or data centers, it is highly likely that you’re familiar with new digital products or solutions. These digital offerings could be sensors, telematics, app-based solutions or cloud-based services.  As you hear more about these new digital offerings, it is important to be aware of the various customer problems and challenges these offerings are designed to solve. 

Is industrial market digitalization here to solve customers’ problems or to improve companies’ operational efficiency, or both? Enhancing the customer experience by solving customer problems is a key objective of digitalization. At Cummins, we spend a lot of time listening to our customers in the health care industry, where our power solutions help to keep health care facilities around the globe Always On. Through these interactions, we have identified four trends transforming the health care industry that are contributing to these changes.

In February of 2018, a coal mine in Northwest Colorado purchased a Liebherr R 9400 excavator for use at its mining operation. The coal that is unearthed at this site is delivered directly to an adjoining 885 megawatt, coal-fired power station. Mine sites in extreme environments require dependable engines to power their mining applications, which is why this mine called on Cummins to power their Liebherr R 9400 excavator.

In some of the most extreme environments on the planet, mining operations are constantly moving without a break. No matter what, the operation must keep moving every hour of every day. In the mining world, downtime due to any single piece of equipment can result in the loss of tens of thousands of dollars. There are two keys to a successful mine site operation; equipment availability and productivity. To achieve optimal performance in both categories, miners need partners that work just as hard as they do.

Each day, Shivani Khosla has the challenge of telling a story through big data. Khosla's career at Cummins began 8 years ago as a supplier in the Electronic Tools department. The experience that Shivani Khosla gained early on in her career has directly impacted her success in one of Cummins newest departments, Cummins Digital Accelerator. 

Tony Satterthwaite, President of the Distribution segment at the company, said a diversity of fuels, including diesel, natural gas, electrified power and developing technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells, give customers the chance to pick what works best for their circumstances (you can watch Tony's testimony here).

Kelley Bertoux Creveling of Cummins accepted the award during the AAAED’s annual conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, on June 12.

On Fortune’s list of the 500 largest U.S. companies ranked by total revenue, Cummins rose from No. 149 in 2018 to No. 128 in 2019, an increase of 21 places. In Forbes magazine’s Global 2000 ranking of the world’s largest public companies, Cummins saw an increase from No. 604 to No. 485, a jump of 119 places. In 2009, Cummins was No. 181 in the Fortune 500. The company finished higher than No. 500 for the first time on the Forbes’ Global 2000 list.
