That’s because the locomotives will continue to use Cummins’ QSK95 Tier 4 engine systems to help deliver clean, efficient power for passenger trains. As a fitting end to an already strong year of wins for the Charger in 2018, Amtrak announced Dec. 21 that it would be purchasing 75 Charger locomotives for delivery starting in 2021.  All in all, the value of Siemens Mobility contracts for the year involving the Charger, including the Amtrak purchase, exceeded $1.5 billion.

Last year, Siemens received contracts for more than 100 of the company’s Charger locomotives – powered by the 4,000 to 4,400 horsepower Cummins’ QSK95 Tier 4 engine systems. The purchases are merely the latest evidence of the growing interest in rail, especially passenger rail, in the U.S. and Canada, advocates say.

In both cases, Cummins offered a quality, reliable product at a price that the competition couldn't beat. Cummins authorized distributor Orient Energy Systems Pvt Ltd (OES) provided the project engineering and sales support, with technical expertise from the engineering team.

The kits were for the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention (CHIP) to distribute during the Indianapolis group’s annual Point-in-Time (PIT) count.

Cummins kicks off its centennial celebration today with a simple message: “Challenge the Impossible.” That’s what the company has been doing since it was founded in a former warehouse in Columbus, Indiana, in February 1919, employing just four people. And it will be the mindset the now global company of more than 58,000 men and women embraces for the next 100 years.
