Anna Dibble, Plant Manager at Cummins' Jamestown Engine Plant, has an impressive 26 years of service at Cummins. We recently sat down with Anna to ask about her career at Cummins. My road trip started on a sunny day outside Plant 1 in Columbus, Indiana - the location of Cummins’ Headquarters. I packed up all my stuff for my first camping adventure since I was a kid, and headed west. At 5640 lbs fully loaded and with the aerodynamics of a small tool shed, the R2.8 powered Landrover Discovery 1 was easily able to cruise at 70 mph across the country, and get 17 mpg while doing it.  

This week, the Cummins Repower team headed to Overland Expo West 2018. We packed up our vehicles and started our engines and made the 1,700 mile journey from Columbus, Indiana to Flagstaff, Arizona. Our Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel repowered Jeep Wrangler TJ and Land Rover Discovery 1 made the trip with ease and arrived at the expo showgrounds Thursday afternoon. We were excited with the amount of Cummins powered Overlanding rigs that greeted us when we entered the expo for show set up.

Cummins has supplied a power solution based around four of its 630 kVA generator sets to Standard Chartered Bank in Ghana. The system will provide the bank’s head office in Accra with standby power whenever interruptions to the grid supply require it.

Cummins is currently engaged in a large-scale project providing short term operating reserve capacity to the UK national grid. The video below focuses on how the work was done at one of the scheme’s 18 sites, at Long Eaton in the county of Derbyshire.

As the first named storm of 2018, there was heavy rainfall and flash floods in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas. And this is just the beginning. After months of research, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center recently released their prediction for the 2018 hurricane season. The 2017 Atlantic Basin hurricane season was a busy one and scientists say we may be in store for another potentially active season. In fact, NOAA is predicting a 75% chance of a near- to above-normal hurricane season. As far as the number of named storms, NOAA meteorologists predict:

The 50-page report includes a host of statistical information, ranging from how the company is doing relative to its environmental goals and the number of people served by Cummins’ community engagement efforts to key safety rates, the percentage of women leaders at the company, the record number of global patents the company received in 2017 and much more.

New technology still has to be manufactured, maintained and programmed, which often requires workers develop new skills as technology evolves, Linebarger said at the forum in Indianapolis, Indiana (U.S.A.) The resulting efficiencies, however can translate into higher wages. While a high school degree was once enough for a successful career in manufacturing, “it hasn’t been that way for a long time,” he said, citing the need for workers with two and four year degrees in manufacturing related studies.

Cummins has beaten extensive international competition to become the provider of continuous power for a new Turkcell data center in İzmir, Turkey. The contract means Cummins has the potential to supply similar solutions to further sites, as Turkcell continues to build more data centers around the country.

The event drew thousands of people downtown on a brilliant sunny day interrupted briefly by a spring storm. Cummins employees are also marching in pride parades in Charleston, South Carolina; Minneapolis, Minnesota and Nashville, Tennessee in the United States as well as Vancouver and Calgary in Canada, Brazil, India and Asia Pacific.
