Cummins Emission Solutions, a global leader in aftertreatment technologies, is excited to unveil further developments of the Single Module™ aftertreatment system. Already announced for 6-cylinder engines, this efficient solution that offers up to a 30 percent reduction in weight and up to 50 percent in size compared to today’s Tier 4 Final solutions in this market, will be complemented with variations of this technology for equipment spanning from 74 hp to 430 hp (55-321 kW).
Cummins Turbo Technologies, a global engineering leader in turbocharger technology, will today unveil its Next Generation Holset VGT™, designed to improve turbo efficiencies and deliver greater fuel economy. This latest innovation in VGT technology offers multiple benefits, such as enhanced integration with the engine system due to a new actuator, improved durability and optimised performance through the patented moving shroud variable geometry mechanism.
Cummins has been successful in its application for funding to support the development of new stop-start engine capabilities. The UK’s innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board is awarding £4.9 million of a total £9.9 million project to a Cummins led consortium, which includes Cummins Turbo Technologies, to introduce this technology. The funding supports the Advanced Propulsion Centre’s initiative to build UK manufacturing strength in low carbon vehicles.
The papers to be presented at IMechE include:
‘Development of a high temperature turbocharger for heavy duty applications’ details work carried out to ‘redesign the turbocharger’ in order to meet the changing requirements of HGVs and the drive towards reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The research has enabled the development of a turbocharger which can operate effectively using Stoichiometric Natural Gas, maintaining similar levels of durability and performance as a diesel turbocharger.
The undergraduates, who are working with Cummins as part of their degree studies, have organized displays and activities on the St Andrew’s Road site as part of World Environment Day. On show were a range of the latest techniques and products available from local specialists and community partners to reduce water consumption, power usage and food waste. Employees could also find out about the latest environmental initiatives at the Cummins facility and greener travel to work schemes.

With a shift in focus from emissions driven regulations towards fuel economy improvements expected in the next round of legislations, these new technologies are the latest post Euro 6 low carbon solutions to be revealed by the global power leader.
The innovative technologies being unveiled by the world leader in automotive technologies include turbocharger components designed for high efficiency and a tailored midrange fuel system that combined can offer up to 7-8% fuel efficiency improvements. Cummins expertise in aftertreatment solutions is also demonstrated with the unveiling of the new high performance Compact Box™ and display of the Single Module™ aftertreatment that offers a 60% reduction in space claim, and 40% reduction in weight, providing significant improvements for customer integration and installation.
It’s the joy of six for visitors to IAA Commercial Vehicles as Cummins Inc. components can be found in six out of 10 of truck and bus exhibits at what is the 66th occasion of the IAA Commercial Vehicles show.
Components engineered and manufactured by Cummins, including technologies for fuel, aftertreatment and air handling systems, as well as lube and fuel filtration, can be found within almost two thirds of truck and bus models on display at what is the world’s leading International Trade Fair for Mobility, Transportation and Logistics.
