It’s officially summertime in the U.S. and the Malta, New York, solid oxide fuel cell team celebrated with a Community Involvement Team (CIT) event. With support from The Cummins Foundation, the Malta site partnered with United Way Worldwide and United Way of the Greater Capital Region to build bikes for local youth in the community.
The findings included in the company’s recently released 2020 Sustainability Progress Report demonstrate that setting challenging goals, sharing them publicly and reporting on the company’s progress can drive important environmental benefits.
Even when the company fell short of a goal, it made meaningful progress. For example, while Cummins didn’t achieve its goal of a companywide 95% recycling rate, it nevertheless set a record rate of 93%.
From the farm to the financial world and college to career, Cummins has always been part of Anna Neese’s life as long as she can remember. “Cummins is headquartered in Indiana and I grew up on a farm in Indiana. So, we always had Cummins tractors, semis, pick-up trucks, what have you on the farm. So, I was very familiar with the Cummins name and that logo.”
John Lee, Cummins Power Systems Product Engineer from Shoreview, Minnesota (USA), has reason to be proud: one of his six children, Suni, is headed to the Olympics as part of the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team.
John laughs as he remembers a six-year-old Suni, before she started training. “She was always jumping around on couches, and it was clear we needed to do something to channel that energy. I remember the first time I took her to the gym, there were a lot of people there, girls doing flips—Suni said, ‘oh they’re so good!’ She wanted to be just like them.”
