Students from Project Stepping Stone recently visited Columbus, Indiana, to listen to Eduardo Martinez, General Manager - New & ReCon Parts Manufacturing, discuss his career path and the importance of higher education. The students also had the opportunity to converse with other Latino employees about their work experiences while admiring the modern-classic architecture of the Irwin Conference Center.
The New and ReCon Parts India (NRPI) plant located at the Cummins Megasite in Phaltan, Maharashtra, India was recently awarded with the Golden Peacock Occupational Health & Safety Award for 2015.
ReCon India remanufactures genuine Cummins made products and components that provide value in every application, from on-highway to industrial and power generation equipment.
This past April, the lights went out in our nation’s capital. There was no storm, it wasn’t a hot summer day, and a car did not knock down any power lines.
The cause of the blackout was allegedly a freak accident due to a dilapidating infrastructure: a piece of metal breaking loose from a power line 43 miles from the District of Columbia. From neighborhoods to national museums, prestigious colleges and government offices, it left about 8,000 D.C. residents sitting in the dark.
As the old saying goes, good fences make good neighbors.
Well, so do quiet generators, and although we’re certain you make every effort to be the good neighbor, you could be overlooking a thing or two.
We’re referring to that old portable backup generator you bring out every time the power fails. It’s bad enough these machines crank out only enough power to run the fridge and TV at the same time, but the near-constant drone of their inefficient motors might really get on someone’s nerves.
Cummins has a history of strengthening the communities in the areas in which they operate from. This dedication to local communities is continuing through a new corporate responsibility partnership with Schneider Electric.
Cummins has always been eager to link its values to corporate responsibility. It wasn’t until early 2000 that the company changed its outlook on corporate responsibility and renewed their commitment to giving back.
Today, Cummins employees in Indiana joined forces with the local Veterans and Supporters Affinity Group (VSAG) to sponsor a Military Care package Drive. The drive aimed at collecting and dispersing items to service members deployed overseas.
Taking care of the communities where Cummins does business has been an important standard for the company since the early beginning. Recently, the Cummins India Foundation awarded scholarships to 125 meritorious students from in an around the locations where Cummins is present.
Now in its ninth successive year, this program supports students from socially and economically unprivileged backgrounds that want higher education.
Today, many companies are becoming more and more eco-conscious about the products they create. Cummins knows the importance of producing products that exceed customer expectations, especially when it comes to products that lead to a cleaner, healthier environment. Recently, Cummins was present at the BusVic Maintenance Conference and Exhibition in Melbourne where the focus was on the pros and cons of the Euro 5 versus the Euro 6.
An Engineer’s Blueprint of Hope
Six years ago, Kwasi Twumasi, an electrical engineer at Cummins Power Generation, started an orphanage in his hometown in Ghana. It did not begin as a vision, but rather an answer to a desperate question.
Twumasi’s brother-in-law died of HIV/AIDS, and the family soon discovered that his sister had the disease, too. They have four children.
Boom!
You immediately sit upright in bed. It’s 3:23 a.m. and it’s happening again. The wind is howling against your window and there’s an unsettling roar in the air. You can see flashes of lightning through the curtains.
