Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) today released its 17th annual Sustainability Progress Report, covering the company’s performance in 2019 on environmental, social and governance issues. The report also highlights Cummins’ efforts to protect employees and serve customers during the first six months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In order to expand its poultry feed business in Sirajganj, Bangladesh, ACI Godrej Agrovet Pvt. Ltd. required a generator-based power solution that was fuel efficient while maintaining a low total cost of ownership. The cogeneration solution offered by Cummins Power Generation was selected for its leadership in product reliability and expertise in cogeneration technologies.

Much like Clessie Cummins, D.W. Onan was a man of humble beginnings. Born in Moorhead, Minnesota (USA) on July 4th, 1886, D.W.’s love for mechanics came from his father, a railroad worker who enjoyed tinkering with things around the house. After his father’s death, D.W. dropped out of high school at 14 to support his family and started his first job at a power plant. He then briefly worked at a skating rink, but the dream to someday own a business pushed him toward the growing automobile industry.
The partnership’s Top 100 represents the largest green power users within the group, with a combined usage of more than 58 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually. Advocates say the Top 100 is critical to creating markets for wind, solar, hydrogen and other forms of renewable power.

D.W. Onan was a devoted family man who spent much of his spare time with his three children, teaching mechanics at the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and being extremely active in the local community. Onan treated his employees as family, never failing to remember their first and last names, and could be seen on any day with his sleeves rolled up and in the thick of the work vis-a-vis his love of manufacturing and designing his own products.
Many economies around the world are in the process of re-opening with a focus on ensuring the safety of those involved. Seymour Engine Plant (SEP), in Seymour, in Indiana is where Cummins Inc. manufactures its largest diesel engine, QSK95. Craig Fisher, QSK95 Manufacturing Leader at Cummins, says, “safety was the top priority for us before the pandemic, but how we practice it has significantly changed as we re-opened SEP’s facilities.”
Varegro of Belgium is using a Cummins HSK78G gas generator to power its commercial greenhouse in Oostrozebeke, West Flanders, making it the first in the world to be installed in a greenhouse environment.
Varegro, which has been harvesting for more than 15 years to become one of the largest export companies in Belgium, selected the newly launched HSK78G to provide Combined Heat and Power (CHP) to the energy-intensive facility.
The CHP installation provides thermal and electrical energy as well as CO2 for a greenhouse premises totaling 40,000 sqm.
