Jithu has never owned a dog, but he recently agreed to dog-sit a seven-month-old Doberman for his friend.  “It’s important to try new things and to be there for friends - to lend a hand,” he says. “It goes a long way. Plus, we think we want a dog and we’re finding out if we can do a good job as owners.”  When asked what he’s learned so far about dogs he says, over a barking Doberman, “They’re a lot of work.”

Since Clessie Cummins’ first two patents awarded in 1921, Cummins engineers have continued to foster invention and innovation year after year. In 2017, Cummins engineers and scientists set a record after receiving 287 patents from the United States and countries across the world. In 2020, 312 patents. By 2022, Cummins doubled our previous numbers, receiving a record of 623 global patents.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “doing more with less?” Advanced diesel engines are specifically engineered to minimize fuel emissions while also achieving optimum performance through high torque and horsepower. There are thousands of applications for advanced diesel engines, from buses and trains to agricultural equipment, mining, boats, and barges—all these and more run on diesel.

The diesel engine working principle was completed by the inventor, Rudolf Diesel, in 1892, and the first prototype was created in 1897. In the years following, he continued to work on improving his theory, and others soon realized the potential of this invention and started making their own versions. One of the people to recognize the importance of the diesel engine was Clessie Lyle Cummins.

For the past eight years, Cummins Inc. employee Matthew Davis has not only been building engines, but also has organized an Easter Toy Drive at Jamestown Engine Plant (JEP). The 3.62 megawatt (MW) solar farm at Cummins’ Rocky Mount Engine Plant (RMEP) in North Carolina was recognized with a 2023 Better Project Award. The recognition highlights projects in the energy department’s Better Buildings/Better Plants initiative for accomplishments in implementing and promoting practices, principles and procedures around sustainable energy management.

April is recognized as National Minority Health Month (U.S.), an initiative created to advance health equity across the country on behalf of all racial and ethnic minorities. Historically, maternal mortality has been disproportionately high for Black women, with most causes being preventable. In conjunction with maternal mental health issues, the disparities are heightened.
