Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) marks the fifth anniversary of International Data Center Day and its continued support of the globally recognized and celebrated event. Powered by the 7x24 Exchange International, Data Center Day was created to raise awareness about the industry and the multitude of career opportunities in the data center space. 

For over 30 years, the Columbus Mid-Range Engine Plant (CMEP) has built the heavy-duty diesel engine for pickup trucks and coated it in a rust-preventative. In 2021, this coating was eliminated, making manufacturing cleaner for the popular engine.

As part of Cummins’ efforts to introduce its customers and Cummins Inc. employees to the two new natural gas generators, the C175N6B and C200N6B, Cummins is pleased to share this interview with Akshay Suresh, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer at the Cummins plant in Fridley, Minnesota (U.S.). When switching to natural gas engines, there are many different aspects to consider. Safety is an absolute priority for engine and vehicle manufacturers, distribution and transportation companies, and end-users. 

Maryann has never been one to compromise who she is. Her self-awareness and self-confidence are what brought her, unexpectedly, to Cummins in 2015.  In college, Maryann worked on campus with an environmental regulation compliance team that managed the school's health, safety, and environment (HSE) as she worked toward her master’s degree in chemical engineering at the Florida Institute of Technology. 

What is a diesel engine's lifespan? Diesel engines are robust machines that have longer lifespans than you might expect. The lifespan of an average diesel engine is anywhere from 400,000 miles to 1,000,000 miles, while the average lifespan of a gas engine is around 200,000 miles. Why is that? Diesel engines are designed differently from petrol engines, meaning they have more room within the engine for more oil to move freely. This allows the components of the engine to run longer at optimal levels.

Advanced diesel engines are some of the most fuel and energy-efficient options in the market, but those are just the beginning of their advantages. Some of their advantages are emotional. For a hundred years, people have been firing up a diesel engine to start their work day. But the environmental impact of that economy is now under increasing regulations. Innovative aftertreatment systems and cutting-edge engineering allow owners to operate with net zero emissions and supplement operations with biodiesel blends.

Unplanned downtime from equipment and engine maintenance at mines can be very costly. To create more value for customers, Komatsu and Cummins Inc. Growing up in Venezuela, Nahigle was always curious about the mysteries of electricity. “As a child, I dreamed of becoming an electrical engineer,” says Nahigle. She grew up, earned her degree, and began a career in the management of offshore oil and gas facilities. Nahigle progressed through several positions: Electrical, Instrumentation and Control Engineer; Procurement Analysis; and Project Engineer. One of her many accomplishments was increasing the reliability of a control system from 40% to 90% on offshore facilities by migrating obsolete technology.
