Mike Pritchard knows first-hand the value of vocational education. Growing up in a working-class neighborhood in London’s East End, he entered a technical education and apprenticeship program at 16, figuring he’d follow in the footsteps of his father and uncle who worked at an automobile factory in Essex. Today, Pritchard is the Director General at the Cummins Filtration Plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, leading an operation that produces 100,000 filters a day.

Plant Manager Ken Anderson takes an active role both inside the plant and working with educational institutions to develop the next generation of plant employees.   Ken Anderson, plant manager of Cummins’ Rocky Mount Engine Plant, recognizes the interdependence between the Company’s operations and the North Carolina region where his 2,100 employees and contractors live and work.

Cummins reputation for building durable, world-class engines is solidified by the effort our customers take to maintain their engines. The Cummins High Mileage Club for Turbo Diesel owners is a special club created to recognize all the miles/kilometers our customers have driven with their Cummins Turbo Diesels. The Cummins High Mileage Club is off to a great start, with over 300 members since the club began in March of this year. This quarter, we feature new member Robert Schiedeck, owner of Schiedeck Construction.

At Cummins, we have a long history of successful joint ventures, and our association with Westport Innovations, which began in 1988, is no exception. Cummins Westport Inc. (CWI) was formalized as a joint venture business on March 7, 2001. Since that time, it has become a significant force in the transportation industry. Over the past decade, Cummins Westport has grown to become the world’s leading supplier of natural gas engines to bus and truck OEMs, providing over 28,000 engines worldwide and powering vehicles on every continent except Antarctica.

There’s something to be said about longevity. For owners of Cummins engines with a million miles or more, that message is “Welcome to the club.” The Cummins Million Mile Club is an exclusive group of Cummins engine owners who have reached a million miles. While most Million Mile Club members drive Class 8 trucks, our newest members, Harry and Shirley Albach, are owners of a 2001 Dodge RAM 3500 with 1,020,000 miles (1,641,531 km).

Cummins technology was in the spotlight in a recent episode of Motorhead Garage highlighting the history of Cummins diesel technology. As part of the “Big Rig” series, the episode, hosted by Sam Memmolo and Dave Bowman, aired on Fox Sports Net (FSN).
