Rich Freeland is the President and Chief Operating Officer for Cummins Inc., overseeing the Company’s daily operations and ensuring that we meet our financial, customer and operating commitments.
Freeland joined Cummins in 1979 working at the Cummins Parts Distribution Center in Columbus, Ind. In his more than 30-year tenure, he has held several other roles within the Company including Plant Manager of the Diesel ReCon Plant in Memphis, Tenn.; Plant Manager of the Columbus Engine Plant in Columbus, Ind.; President of Distribution Business and President of Components.
Most recently, Freeland was President of the Engine Business for Cummins, a position he held from 2010 to 2014. In this role Rich oversaw development, manufacturing, marketing and sales for the Company’s largest business unit. Under his leadership, the Engine Business realized revenue growth of nearly 40 percent, launched a record number of new products and created and grew numerous global partnerships in existing and new markets around the world.
A native of Indiana, Freeland attended Purdue University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from the Krannert School of Management. In 1987, he earned an MBA from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
Freeland serves on the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) Board, the Purdue University Advisory Council Board, the National Association of Manufacturers Board, the Valvoline Board of Directors and the Bartholomew County United Way Committee.
