Tony Satterthwaite, Vice President – Power Generation (third from right),  Steve Chapman, Vice President – Emerging Markets and Businesses (second from left), and John Watkins, Chairman and CEO of Cummins China Investment Co., (first from left) join the Wuhan Vice Mayor (middle), and the U.S. General Consul in Wuhan (third from left) to press the button down to launch the first generator set produced in Wuhan new plant.

WUHAN, CHINA – Cummins Power Generation (CPG)’s global manufacturing capability has expanded with the opening today of Cummins’ (NYSE:CMI) newest plant in central China.

The CPG Wuhan plant, which also began production today, will offer a broad range of diesel electrical generator sets from 11 – 2000 kW, G-drives and automatic transfer switches (ATS) for emergency backup, prime power and continuous electrical power.

Cummins has invested $19 million in the 20,000-square-meter facility. The high-volume plant will have an annual capacity of 7,300 units of diesel electrical generator sets, 20,000 G-drives and 15,000 ATS. When operating at full capacity, CPG Wuhan will be one of the leading manufacturing facilities of power systems for CPG worldwide and in China’s booming electrical power market.

“We are very excited to celebrate the addition of this important new member of the CPG family,” said Tony Satterthwaite, Cummins Vice President and President of CPG. “The opening of this new venture will further enhance our overall capability in the China market, which brings great potential and has a growing importance for our business. It will be a beacon to guide us to develop the advanced technology and most reliable and cost-effective product platforms that will be well suited for China.”

The world-class facility will meet the increased demand for Cummins products in China and the international market.  It is CPG’s third operation in China and represents a further expansion of the Company’s product line. CPG has a generator set assembly plant in Beijing and a Cummins Generator Technologies’ plant in Wuxi.

The new plant is located, near key suppliers and transportation facilities, with easy access to locally-produced engines and key components.

Since entering the China market in 1991, CPG power products have delivered reliable standby emergency power, distributed power generation, prime power and cogeneration for many key events and critical facilities in China, including the 2008 Beijing Olympics venues and disaster relief efforts. CPG also has supplied power for infrastructures, telecommunication, financial institutions, high-tech facilities, advanced manufacturing and transportation.

“We are proud to be one of the forces powering the growth of China,” said Steve Chapman, Cummins Group Vice President and head of Cummins China. “This new CPG facility will allow us to take the complementary strength of the localization of Cummins' entire product line in China to offer the market a unique value proposition and the best energy solution for the power demand of our customers in all industries. With China’s booming economy and our dedicated employees, we think the future is very bright for CPG China.”
